Maths Land Icons

The brief was to design a set of icons for the Maths Land subject area of the Avantis Education Eduverse portal. The initial design request was for one main icon, with the option of having the land name displayed on it or not, and then to create several other icons for the specific study areas within the subject which assets in the land were divided into.

As the icons could be used at a variety of sizes and in both print and web based media, producing a design that would remain legible at smaller sizes was an important factor in the design concept stage. The main background colour was decided upon with members of the Avantis Education services team that write and create the content for each interactive scene, with red being chosen as it offered the most contrast between the other four existing land icons, with a deeper red working best when used behind various potential design elements.

The icon designs went through several concept stages, with the elements in the designs being created from scratch rather than sourced from stock sites, and were developed through feedback and input from the aforementioned Education Service colleagues, with final approval then given by the department head.
