Persnickey Gardens Cafe Logo Design
Logo design for Persnickety Gardens, an artisan café based in Texas, specialising in homemade bread, freshly baked cakes and scones, and traditional afternoon teas. The brand centres around the idea that “patience, craft, and care rise together.”
The objective was to create a logo that reflected the café’s character as set out by the client as "it’s artisan not trendy or polished. It’s warm, confident but humble. It’s tradition and old world but spoken in modern terms... it’s quality without bragging."
I explored a range of initial concepts, developing them as black and white vector designs to focus on form and clarity. Each concept was tested at multiple sizes to ensure legibility and versatility. To differentiate the brand from typical bakery identities, I intentionally avoided overused visual motifs such as bread loaves or rolls. Instead, I explored more distinctive references, including subtle use of the Scottish saltire, reflecting the café’s focus on traditional Scottish recipes made with authentic ingredients.
Concepts were iterated, refined, and narrowed down, with the strongest designs applied to mockups to support the final selection process. Once the final concept was chosen and tested at various sizes to ensure legibility, I developed the colour palette, guided by the client’s preference for oatmeal tones as a primary colour, and supporting colours were selected to complement the main colours and provide flexibility for future brand application.
The final deliverables included a full-colour logo, greyscale version, light and dark background variations and favicon for any future website
